Message to Staff: FAQ About Potential INA & SEIU Strike
September 4, 2020
From Michael Zenn, Chief Executive Officer Heading link
Dear Colleagues —
As you know, the Illinois Nurses Association (INA) filed a 10-day notice of intent to strike for seven days beginning on September 12, 2020.
Yesterday, SEIU Local 73 filed a 10-day notice of intent to strike starting as soon as September 14. SEIU Local 73 includes 4,000 clerical, technical, service and professional employees across the campus and in the Hospital.
While this action means that the INA and SEIU can opt to strike, it does not mean that they will.
Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to avert a strike. We are committed to bargaining as long as it takes to reach successful agreements, and we hope a strike can be avoided.
Nonetheless, we want share some important information so you have the facts should a strike occur. Attached is an FAQ addressing some of the most common questions.
We will continue to keep you informed as negotiations and planning continue. Up-to-date information about the status of INA and SEIU negotiations are available on the Intranet.
If you have questions, please contact employee relations at UIHEER@uic.edu.
Sincerely,
Michael B. Zenn
